William D. Ahrens Jr., 64, of Montello, WI, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021, in his home after a battle with ALS.
Bill was born in Atlanta, GA and grew up in Rolling Meadows, IL. He moved to Wisconsin in 1991 after meeting and falling in love with future wife, Laura (Thalacker) Ahrens while on vacation with friends in Montello. They were married in 1992 and have stood as proof for almost 30 years that a Packer fan and a Bears fan CAN live peacefully together (except maybe for the 2 times per year when the teams play each other). He worked for several years as a supervisor at AMPI in Portage, WI and retired in 2018.
Bill valued family immensely and took great joy in watching his daughters grow into confident and successful young women. Many friends have noted that Bill was always the guy who would do anything for those he cared for and who would go out of his way to make sure folks who might be lonely, ignored or picked on felt safe and included. He loved to fish on his pond, to observe local wildlife from his porch and to go on motorcycle rides with Laura to take in the towns and countryside around Wisconsin. He enjoyed getting together with friends to just chat or to play pool or cornhole and loved to compete.
Bill is survived by his wife, Laura Ahrens and daughters, Rhiannon Ahrens and Bronwyn Ahrens; sisters, Debbie Stoltman, Linda Ahrens-Posco and Betty Ann Ahrens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willian Ahrens Sr and wife, Betty as well as sister, Pamela.
A memorial gathering for Bill was held on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.at Meadows Funeral home in Rolling Meadows, IL.
William will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Westfield, WI and a brief graveside service and celebration of life will occur at a date to be announced soon.
