Marlene Barbara (nee Suess) Locke, age 92 of Westfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Harris Villa Assisted Living. She was born on February 6, 1932 in St. Paul, MN to Frank and Mary (nee McDevitt) Suess. Marlene married Wayne Locke on Aug 26, 1950, in Milwaukee and they moved to Westfield in 1955. She was very active in Marquette County Association for the Disabled Children. Marlene was very passionate to help others with special needs as her son David was handicapped. She was also active in the Catholic Church in Westfield and Florida, the Marquette County Homemakers, and Senior Center. Marlene loved to be a stay-at-home mom and after her kids were grown, she worked at Bob & Kay’s restaurant as a cook before retiring. She has been a partner to Jerry Cagney for the last 20 years. They loved to do many things as a couple; snowbird to Florida during the winter, square dancing, golfing, playing cards with friends, gambling, bus tours with friends, and crocheting quilts for grandchildren. Marlene always treasured spending time with her family and always thought of her grandchildren as a blessing.
She leaves behind to mourn her death but celebrate her life: Joan (Greg) Smith of Dahlonega, GA, Wayne Locke of Marshall, Robert Locke of Oconomowoc, Ramon Locke of Westfield, Mary (Roger) Goldsmith of Westfield and Jane (John) Lloyd of Oxford; grandchildren, Scott Campbell, Brian Campbell (Kim), Tammi (Jose) Campbell-Medoza, Bradley (Amber) Locke, Cindy (Travis) Locke, Nathan (Ashley) Locke, Jessica Gale, Rebecca (Andy) Wutkowski, Emily Locke, Tara (Spencer) Hamilton, Garrit Goldsmith, Ronda (Mike) Goldsmith-Henke, Julie Goldsmith, Lucas (Katelyn) Shimpach, Jacob Shimpach and Jaylyn Shimpach; 28 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; Jerry’s children, Tim (Joni) Cagney, Joe, Robert (Judy) Cagney, Frank (Sue) Cagney, William, Chris (Tina) Cagney, Mike (Dawn) Cagney, Jeff Cagney and Mary Pike; special friend of the family, Barbara (Fritschler) Morgan of Grand Marsh and many other family and friends that came to see her while in Harris Villa. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Locke; son, David Locke; parents, Frank and Mary Suess; sister, Kathleen Suess; daughter in law, Kathleen Locke; grandson, Brian Gale and great-grandson, Elijah Gale.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Marlene will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Westfield with Father Savio Yerasani officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Westfield East Cemetery.
