Biography Marion E. Westphal, age 90 of Westfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Divine Savior Hospital, Portage. She was born on January 15, 1921 in Menomonie, WI, daughter of the late William and Martha (Mittelsteadt) Karnatz. Marion graduated from Menomonie High School in 1939 and Dunn County Normal in 1941. She taught at Iron Creek School until she married. Marion married John E. Westphal on June 20, 1944 at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie. John preceded her in death on July 2, 1994. After 20 years of being a homemaker she returned to work as a cook for the Menomonie School District until her retirement in 1983. Marion and her husband moved to Westfield that same year. She was active in the Westfield Homemakers Club, Marquette County Fair and St. John Lutheran Church Ladies Aid. Marion enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and her card clubs. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne (George) McCartney, Westfield; three grandchildren, Tammy (Randy) Winkelman, Dr. John (Karen) McCartney and Sarah (Dusty) Grant; seven great grandchildren, Kaylin, Greg, Josie, Max, Amelia, Natalie and Sam; two nieces; one nephew and many friends. Marion was preceded in death by her two brothers, Harold and Willard Karnatz.
A funeral service for Marion will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Harrisville with Rev. Blaine Niskanen officiating. Burial will be in Harrisville Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
