Madeline Schatzka

Madeline (Madge) I. Schatzka, age 94 of Westfield, passed away on Dec. 8, 2007 with her four children at her side. She was born on Sept. 2, 1913 in Westfield Township. She was the second daughter of William and Emma (Bartz) Mussey. Madge married Glenn F. Schatzka on Oct. 15, 1936. He preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1980. After high school, Madge attended Westfield Teacher's Training and taught at Oakdale School in Springfield Township and two years at the local school in Briggsville, WI. Madge was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed snowmobiling with family and friends, fishing, hunting, camping near Lac du Flambeau, trips to Hayward and traveling with Glenn on State Farm Insurance sponsored activities. In later years, Madge and Glenn purchased a cottage in northern Wisconsin where they continued their love of snowmobiling and the outdoors. Madge was actively involved in church and teaching Sunday School. She loved cooking and baking and was famous for her Christmas cookies. Survivors include her four children, Kay Taschwer, Mary (Richard) Neeb, Tim and Becky; 9 grandchildren and spouses, and 23 great grandchildren. She is further survived by 2 sisters, Tress Ploetz and Ruth Drew, brother in law, Joey Baggs, sister-in-law, Margaret Schatzke, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mary Slowey and Thelma Baggs, 2 brothers, Jack and Ira and son-in-law Tom Taschwer.
A funeral service for Madge will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. at New Beginnings Christian Community Church, Westfield with Pastor Terry Temanson officiating. Interment will be in Westfield East Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
