Luverne Daye Vander Sande, age 96 of Neshkoro, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2016 at her home. She was born on November 9, 1920 in Neshkoro, daughter of the late Edwin and Della (Hoeft) Daye. Luverne graduated from Neshkoro High School in 1938 as Valedictorian of her class. In 1940, she graduated from Fond du Lac Commercial College. Luverne then moved to Plymouth where she was employed at Borden Co. as an executive secretary for 13 years.
On January 3, 1947, she met the love of her life, Alden Vander Sande. They were engaged on August 18, 1944 and married on June 19, 1948 at Zion United Methodist Church in Neshkoro. They were blessed with three children, Alden Jeffrey, Brenda Daye and Paul Edwin. After the birth of their children, Luverne became a full-time mother and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, baking and canning the produce from their garden. Luverne was also the church pianist for many years as well as Sunday school teacher. After Alden’s retirement in 1985 they moved back to the farm in Neshkoro where she was born and raised. They enjoyed the quiet country life.
She is survived by two children, Brenda (Michael) Cornell and Paul (Peggy) Vander Sande; eight grandchildren, Nicole (Lee) Watson, Melissa (Ben) Hill, Amber (Tim) Winter, Sam (Jaime Reals) Cornell, Michala (Juan) Martinez, Kezra Cornell, Jonathan and Matthew Vander Sande; nine great grandchildren, Noah, Zoe, Lily and Mia Watson, Adelyn and Maxwell Hill, Preston Winter, Ethan Cornell and Mila Martinez; daughter in law, Joan Vander Sande; many other relatives and friends. Luverne was preceded in death by her son, Alden Jeffrey and her husband, Alden.
A funeral service for Luverne will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church, Neshkoro with Rev. Larry Rieck officiating. Burial will be in Zion United Methodist Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
