Biography Lillie Violet Long, age 76 of Oxford, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2011 in her home with family by her bedside. She was born on January 12, 1935 in Town of New Chester, Adams County the only child of the late Alvin and Lula (Pike) Groskreutz. Lillie married Neil Long on August 29, 1959 at the New Chester Congregational Church in Adams County. She worked at the canning factory and shoe store in Waupun, Dairyland Poultry, Endeavor and at Brakebush Brothers as a licensed egg candler, Westfield. Lillie then focused on working full time on the homestead dairy farm and being an adult foster home. She also did kinship care as needed. In her childhood and teen years Lillie enjoyed horses, cattle, 4-H of Adams County, State Fair 4-H, ice and roller skating and fishing. In her later years she enjoyed dancing, traveling, entertainment shows and gardening. Lillie was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Westfield.
Survivors include her husband, Neil; one daughter, Lisa (Tim) Ems, Oxford; one grandson, Thomas Ems; many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Lillie will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Westfield with Pastor Barb Merwin officiating. Interment will be in New Chester Cemetery, Adams County. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
