Biography Leila Marie Lyon (nee Johnson), age 89 passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Our House Memory Care, Wisconsin Dells. She was born on June 30, 1918, Township of New Chester, Adams County daughter of the late Herbert and Ina (McMahon) Johnson. She grew up in Adams County near Patrick's Lake and graduated from Westfield High School, boarding in town during her high school years. Leila married Fred Lyon on June 5, 1937 in Westfield. They farmed in the Township of Westfield and were in the cattle business for many years. They were blessed with six children, Barbara, Charlene, Kay, Tom, Jeanne and Susan. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Westfield and a 4-H leader for the Westfield Busy Bees for many years, sharing her gifts, especially sewing. She also shared her baking skills, providing her special chocolate chip cookies to new neighbors and family. Leila enjoyed her winter visits with her family in Phoenix and attending her grandchildren's sporting and music events in Arizona and Wisconsin and was on the bleachers for many Holstein shows. Later in life she was employed at Spees Florist and Greenhouse, Westfield and enjoyed rafting the Colorado River and climbing Pike's Peak.
Survivors include her five children, Charlene Marquardt, Phoenix, Kay (Roger) Reetz, Mequon, Tom (Teri) Lyon, Westfield, Jeanne Bengsch, Beloit, Sue (Tim) Slowey, Westfield; son in law, Al Imm, Cottage Grove; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth(Roberta) Johnson, Westfield; other relatives and friends. Leila was preceded in death by her husband, Fred in 1975; daughter, Barbara Imm; infant daughter, Cheri Lynn Lyon; three grandchildren, Mary Ann Imm, Dennis Imm and Pamela J. Reetz; two sons in law, Terry Bengsch and James Marquardt; brother, Donald Johnson and sister Lola Whitney.
A funeral service for Leila will be held on Monday, October 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Westfield with Pastor Joe Adkins officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Township of Westfield. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2007 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, Westfield and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Memorials are appreciated to First Presbyterian Church or Oak Hill Cemetery.
