Karen L. Vick, age 71 of Westfield, passed away at home on June 3, 2015 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Karen was born in Madison on October 28, 1943. She married Robert Vick on November 16, 1963. Their first home was on Maher Ave, Madison, then moving to a farmette in Poynette, where she enjoyed her goats, sheep, cows and horses. They purchased the family business, Sunnyside Resort on Lake Kegonsa, Stoughton, WI, after 23 years they retired to Westfield, WI.
If you could measure the value of her existence by the friendships she had it would be priceless. Her sense of adventure was highlighted by skydiving with her sister, Jo. Her love of travel took her to Switzerland and Italy with her mother and sister, to Brazil to visit daughter Kim, to Paris to meet Denis, a return trip with Kim, Sue and niece Jackie; loved her trip to England with Aunt Mary, along with many other trips with friends and family.
She went to Mexico many times while wintering in Texas. She enjoyed the Texas Tea times with friends.
Karen was a talented water color artist and painted great family portraits and landscapes. She was well known for her hospitality, good cooking, gardening and wine making. She loved Texas Holdem parties, her bridge clubs, 500 card club and was hard to beat at golf.
Karen is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Kim (Denis) Rusalen, DeForest; two sons, Ben Vick (Mechelle Strobel Vick), Swartz Creek, MI and Mike Vick, DeForest; three grandchildren, Chloe and Joseph Rusalen, Brandon Vick; brother, Larry (Mira) Severson, Westfield; two sisters, Joanne Drew (Jerry Bitney), Madison and Susan (Bob) Kravick, Westfield and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ansel and Doris Severson; niece, Teri Severson and great nephew, Nicholas Struzynski.
A memorial service for Karen will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Harrisville Sportsmen’s Club Community Center with Rev. Min Chea officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the hour of service in Harrisville. A private family inurnment will be held at Riverside “Lawrence” Cemetery, Town of Westfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Budda Box Against Cancer of Marquette County or Agnesian Hospice Hope.
