Joan Walters

Joan K. Walters, age 87 of Harrisville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, December 13th, 2019.  She was born on September 19th, 1932 to Joseph and Helen (Kasierski) Borzick.

Joan grew up in Harrisville and graduated from Westfield High School in 1950. She married Dean Walters at St. John’s Catholic Church in Montello in 1953.  Dean and Joan opened the Northern Bar in Harrisville with Ivan Johannes in 1967 and purchased Stubb’s Bar in Montello with Ben and Florence Swader and built and ran Ben-Deano’s Supper Club until 1973.  In 1975 the couple built and ran the Pioneer Restaurant in Westfield until 1981.

From 1988-2008, Joan served as the Food Service Supervisor for the Westfield School District.  She enjoyed seeing all of the kids and appreciated working with her fellow employees.  She always bragged that she had the best kitchen crew!  Many thanks to everyone she had the pleasure of working with in the many ventures throughout her life.

Joan enjoyed deer hunting, gardening, cooking, canning and riding her 4-wheeler.  She also loved her golden retrievers and spending time with family and friends.

She will be missed by her five children, Randy (Cindy) Walters, Georgia, Carey (Jerry) Wentland, Harrisville, Bucky (Angie) Walters, Harrisville, Bob Walters, Harrisville and Susie (Joe) Cassini, Harrisville and son-in-law Randy Reetz, Princeton; twelve grandchildren, Kiley, Darika, Sarah, Megan, Joe, Jamie, TJ, Alex, Brittany, Katie, Abby and Glenna; twenty-two great grandchildren, Emily, Evie, Heidi, Scott, RJ, Jeremiah, Madison, Mike, Lydia, Lexie, Benson, Jillie, Jackston, Jameson, Nolan, Mavis, Lincoln, Crosby, Hudson, Claire, Will and Caroline; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband of over 60 years, Dean Walters, two daughters, Jill Borgrud and Nancy Reetz, and grandson, Mike Wentland.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 18th, 2020 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Harrisville Sportsman’s Club Community Center.
