James ”Snuffy” Schraufnagel, age 74 of Harrisville, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at his home. He was born on February 11, 1937 in Lena, WI, son of the late Bernard and Helen (Lisowe) Schraufnagel. Jim married Elaine Sawicki on August 18, 1956 in Green Bay. He was a member of Local 139 Operating Engineers for 45 years, Harrisville Lions and Sportsmen Club and Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Westfield. Jim and his wife owned and operated the Sandman Motel in Westfield for 25 years. He loved the Green Bay Packers and was proud to be at the 1967 Ice Bowl. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed playing cribbage and shuffleboard.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Elaine; seven children, Bob, Green Bay, Candy (Rick) Coey, Missouri, Gary (June), Upper Michigan, Jim (Kimberly), Harrisville, Steve, Westfield, David (Candy Ann), Oxford and Rick (Chris), Montello; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren with two more on the way; one sister, Sophie Woodford, Green Bay; three brothers, Stephen (Donna), Cudahy, Hub (Marilyn) New Franken and Louie, Green Bay; his dog, Sparky and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Schraufnagel.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jim will be held on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Westfield with Rev. Michael Richel officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at church. Following the traditional service Jim will be cremated. Inurnment will be in Harrisville Cemetery at a later date.
