Irene O'Neil

Biography Irene Anna O’Neil, age 92 of Westfield, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she had been living with her daughter, Diane and her family. She was born on May 26, 1918 in Adams County, daughter of the late Walter and Leona (Roller) Fritz. Irene married Kermit O’Neil on June 12, 1943, he preceded her in death on March 13, 2008. She worked alongside her husband and helped operate the O’Neil family farm until 1973. Irene was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, Westfield where she was active in Ruth’s Circle and served as an Elder. She was also a member of the Westfield VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #8718. Irene enjoyed to cook, garden, play cards and she loved to spend time with family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Diane (Steve) O’Neil-Sachtjen, Cedar Rapids, IA; two granddaughters, Jennifer (fiancé Dustin VansCoy) Sachtjen and Alicia Sachtjen; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Goldean (Albert) Siefkes and her brother, Alvin (Priscilla) Fritz.
A funeral service for Irene will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Westfield with Pastor Barb Merwin officiating. Interment will be in Westfield South Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
