Ilene L. Langdon, age 71 of Westfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at home. She was born on July 8, 1941 in Long Prairie, MN, daughter of the late King and Arla (Schrupp) Merrell.
Ilene loved spending time with her family. She loved to crochet and knit and she made many afghans for her family and friends. Ilene enjoyed listening to old-time radio shows, books on CD, and watching TV detective shows. She loved building puzzles with her grandchildren. Ilene loved collecting thimbles, but cherished her cardinal collection. She would be the first to spot a cardinal outside and loved everything about them. Ilene enjoyed spending time with her special group of friends she often referred to them as the “Coffee Clutch” in her apartment complex. She made the best giblet gravy for Thanksgiving. No Thanksgiving’s will be the same without it. Ilene was a loving, and giving person that was so helpful to her family and friends whenever they needed a hand. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly!
She is survived by her 3 daughters, Karen (Greg) Clark, IL, Cheryl Langdon, IL, and Joann (Rick) Cotton, Westfield; her 14 grandchildren, Michelle (Kyle), Jermy, Adam (Rachel), Matthew (Nicole), Rachelle, Candice (Matt), Nick, Andrea, Josh, Alyssa, Brandon, David Jr., Breanna, and Cristen; 13 great-grandchildren, Madalyn, Izabelle, Emma, Elizabeth, Jacob, Christopher, Joshua, Melody, Alex, Makayla, JJ, Cody, and Chandler; special friend, Marsha Goodheart, IL; four sisters, her twin sister, Eldoris Palm, IL, Judy (Phil) Wilson, IL, Barbara (Carl) Langdon, FL and Karen (Steve) Nettleton, ID; one brother, Waldo Merrell, IL; many other relatives and friends. Ilene was preceded in death by her son, David Langdon Sr., brother, Wayne Merrell Sr., sister in law, Charlene Merrell.
A funeral service for Ilene will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, Westfield with Rev. Winton Maki officiating. Burial will be in Westfield East Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the family.
