Hildegard Henke

Hildegard Maria (Wachholz) Henke age 94 years, 2 months, and 12 days of Westfield, was called to her heavenly home by her Lord on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Tivoli at Divine Savior Healthcare, Portage surrounded by family.

She was born on March 5, 1925, in the Township of Springfield, Marquette County to Walter and Selma (Rosanske) Wachholz.  Hildegard was baptized on March 9, 1925 at home, Township of Springfield, by Rev. Walter Plischke.  She was confirmed in the faith on April 17, 1938 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. Otto Messerschmidt.  Hildegard married Walter Edgar Henke on June 13, 1948 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Township of Springfield by Rev. Otto Messerschmidt.  This marriage union was blessed by four daughters.

Hildegard was homemaker, wife, and mother.  For 15 years Hildegard was a cook/head cook for the Westfield School District.  She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church-Springfield and Westfield.  Hildegard was a Sunday School teacher and member of the Ladies Aid and Senior Group.

She is survived by her three devoted daughters, Carol Henke, Karen Henke, and Sharon (Marlo) Groskreutz (all of Westfield); her three beloved grandchildren Malachi (Lindy) Groskreutz, Melissa Ann (Chris) Kiefer, and Micah (Shantal) Groskreutz, four cherished great grandsons Mitchell, Cullen, Madden, and Cayson all of Portage; goddaughter Kristine (Larry) Ehrke, Waterloo; brother and sister-in-law’s Martin (Betty) Henke, St. James, Minnesota; Caroline (John) Duesterhoeft, Westfield; Dorothy Schroeder, Fond du lac; and Verla (Eldon) Bengsch, Westfield; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter on August 4, 2005; her infant daughter; her parents, Walter and Selma (Rosanske) Wachholz; her in-laws, Otto and Dora (Buchholz) Henke; brother and sister-in-law’s, Hilbert and Elaine Henke, Gerhardt Henke. Gertrude (Harry) Berndt, and Elroy Schroeder, and one nephew, Donald Henke.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, 2019 from 9-11 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Westfield.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Westfield at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gary Schultz officiating.  Her earthly remains will be committed to the ground on Friday at the Westfield East Cemetery and they will wait for the resurrection on the last day.  Memorials can be made to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The family wishes to thank Pastor Rodney Armon and comfort dog Candace, Pastor Gary Schultz, Pastor Greg Hovland, and Chaplain Tyler for the prayers and comfort given to Hildegard and her family during her illness. Special thanks to the staff at Tivoli at Divine Savior Healthcare and Agrace Hospice Care for the wonderful care and love given to Hildegard.  May God bless you all!!
