Harold Smith Jr., age 75 of Oxford, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. He was born on February 14, 1941 in Oxford to Harold and Mildred (Foote) Smith Sr. Harold graduated from Oxford High School in 1959 and married Joyce Bellows on December 5, 1959. He worked at Mercury Marine and Luger Farms for 41 years. Harold was a member of the Oxford Village Cemetery Board and charter member and first President of the Oxford Sno-Mads. He was a man of few words, but they were always the right ones. Harold was an “engineer” and was known to fix and build things that amazed a lot of people. His passion after retiring was working in his shop and helping anyone that asked. Harold loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joyce: four children, Randy (Melissa) Smith, Brenda (Byron) Henke, Sandy (Darrell) Vogel and Lori (Jeff) Sveum; 11 grandchildren, Amanda Ratzel, Justin Smith, Preston Henke, Rebekah Verbeten, Jessica Kraemer, Kendall Vogel, Nathan Vogel, Elizabeth Vogel, Mirra Vogel, Jarett Sveum and Jackson Sveum; six great grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Phillips; one brother, Wally (Bonnie) Smith; many other relatives and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; brother in law, Hugh Phillips and grandson, Tyler Henke.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home of Westfield and on Saturday, June 11, 2016 from 10:00 to 12:00 noon at the funeral home.
A funeral service for Harold will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 12:00 noon at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home of Westfield with Rev. Jeffrey Radley officiating. Burial will be in Oxford Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
