Harley F. Kruger, age 94 of Westfield, passed away peacefully with his family near his side following a short illness on Monday, March 23, 2009 at Harris Villa. He was born on October 1, 1914 in Westfield, son of the late Otto and Myrtle (Campbell) Kruger. Harley married Eunice Iverson on May 13, 1944, she preceded him in death. He then married Grace Nelson on April 7, 1973 in Las Vegas, NV. Harley proudly served his country in the United States Army during WW II. After high school he worked for his dad at Otto’s Meat Market in Westfield. He then worked for the United States Post Office in St. Paul, MN and Metairie, LA for over 30 years retiring back to Westfield. Harley was a member of Westfield VFW Post # 8718, Marquette County Historical Society and First Presbyterian Church, Westfield where he served as an Elder and on the Board of Deacon’s. He was an avid golfer who achieved golf’s ultimate prize, a hole-in-one at the age of 80.
Survivors include his wife, Grace; one brother, Jack (Elaine) Kruger, Westfield; sister in law, Frances; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his step son, Cole Iverson; brother, Ira Kruger and an infant sister, Edith Kruger.
A funeral service for Harley will be held on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Westfield with Pastor Barb Merwin officiating. Interment will be in Westfield South Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
