Biography Grace M. (nee Nelson) Kruger, age 97 of Westfield, passed away in the loving hands of the Harris Villa staff on Thursday, June 30, 2011. She was born on May 14, 1914, the youngest of seven children to Nels and Petrea (Pederson) Nelson. Grace graduated from Westfield High School in 1931 and Teachers Training Course in 1932. Grace left Westfield and moved to Green Bay where she lived for 25 years with her sister and brother in law, Anna and Raa Brown. She attended Badger Business College and was employed for years with Davies Dental Lab as a secretary and bookkeeper. On April 7, 1973 she married her childhood friend and classmate Harley Kruger in Las Vegas, NV. They resided in Metairie, LA for about 10 years before they moved back to Westfield where they were both born and raised. Grace was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Westfield and the United Presbyterian Women and Marquette County Historical Society. She took great pride in her Danish heritage and many Danish keepsakes and dishes adorned her home. Grace loved to read and she traveled extensively throughout the U.S. with family.
Grace is survived by her two nieces, Gretchen Schatzke and Rae Ann Martin; one nephew, Robert Swader and many special great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Anna Brown, Lois Bursack, Sis Swader, Margaret Selk and Veda Dahlke; one brother, Emmert Nelson; three nieces, Petrea Good, Hally Krentz and Connie Thompson.
A funeral service for Grace will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Westfield with Pastor Alyson Janke officiating. Burial will be held in Westfield South Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
