Gilbert Bittelman

Gilbert H. Bittelman, age 87 of the Township of Newton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Harris Villa of Westfield. He was born on April 27, 1926 in the Township of Newton to Albert and Ella (Abraham) Bittelman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Newton. Gilbert married Adeline Groskreutz on November 15, 1947 in Wautoma, she preceded him in death on February 23, 1991. He later married Margaret (Pomplun) Daye on November 11, 2000 in Wautoma. Gilbert spent his entire life on the Bittelman Family Homestead where he farmed and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a founding member and 1st chief of the Township of Newton Volunteer Fire Department. There was nothing more he cherished than spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; son, Donald Bittelman, Township of Newton; three step-children, Dean Daye(Jodi), Neshkoro, Dennis (Kim) Daye, Westfield, Debra (Chris) Kline, Baraboo; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Mazzuca, Douglas (Melissa), Travis (Jessica), Danielle, Jordan, Erica and Emily Bittelman; four step-grandchildren, Ashley and Justin Daye, Zach and Levi Kline; five great grandchildren, Brady and Kailey Mazzuca, Ryan and Adam Bittelman and Tanner Bittelman; many other relatives and friends. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Adeline, son, Charles Bittelman, two sisters, Hilda Zimmermann and Gladys Semrow.

A funeral service for Gilbert will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Westfield with Rev. Gary H. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Westfield East Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, Westfield and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
