George “Rick” Joseph Rickel, age 81, of Westfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, October 26, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on April 13, 1931 to Bernard and Louise (La Couisier) Rickel in Hermansville, MI. He married Mary Joanne Snow on July 16, 1959, and together they raised three children.
Rick entered the United States Air Force in 1951 and retired honorably in 1973. He was very proud of his career in the Air Force, and served two Tours of Duty, Korea and Vietnam.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary, of Westfield, his daughters Dorothy (Tom) Becker, Tracy (Todd) Morrical and his son Timothy, all of Westfield. They have 4 wonderful grandchildren, Erik Becker of Weatherford, TX, Lindsay (Ryan) Becker of Pasco, WA, Mary Morrical of Westfield and Mathew Rickel of Montello, as well as their precious great granddaughters, Madelyn and Haylie of Pasco, WA.
Rick is further survived by his sister Audrey (Gary) Vanderheyden of Eagle River, Karen (Don) Polkinghorne of Green Bay, and his sister in law Donna Rickel of Waupaca, his aunt Marie Rickel of Idaho, as well as many other sister and brothers in law, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friends Chris, Dan, Myles and Marcus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ben Rickel, and a very special uncle, “Nubs,” his mother and father in law, Elmer and Dorothy Snow, 4 brothers in law, James Snow, David Snow, George Snow, Dale Weir and a nephew, Basil Snow.
Mary invites family and friends to join their family in remembering Rick on Saturday, November 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Steinhaus Holly Funeral Home in Westfield. Full Military Honors will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Budda Box or Home Health United Hospice
