Evelyn Catherine Marcelain, age 93 of Westfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Harris Villa Assisted Living in Westfield. She was born on November 17, 1927 in Waukegan, IL to John and Catherine (Schaeffer) Cossman. Evelyn married Gerard “Jack” Marcelain on June 28, 1947 in Waukegan.
While living in Illinois her main purpose was raising her family, but she also worked at Terrace Nursing Home. After moving to Westfield, she worked part time as a cook at the school and at the Village Inn. Evelyn then worked at Brakebush Brothers for 10 years before retiring. She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church where she was a religious ed teacher, lector and communion minister. Evelyn was known for her sense of humor, sarcasm, and most of all her love for God. She brought joy to everyone she met. Evelyn had a strong faith and used that to help others. She was the mom that everyone adopted as their own. Evelyn is now dancing and singing in heaven with all her family that went before her.
Evelyn is survived by her seven children, Elliot (Helen), Fond du Lac, Mark (Gail), Winthrop Harbor, IL, Karen (Gary) Zwicke, Antioch, IL, Grant, Two Rivers, Margaret (Rich) Cairns, Westfield, John, Westfield and Julie (Ed) Kulack, Big Flats; 29 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; two daughters in law, Sue and Dawn Marcelain; sister-in-law, MaryAnn Cossman; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerard “Jack”; four sons, Tom, Tony, Roger and Brian; grandson, Steve Marcelain and her nine siblings.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home in Westfield and on Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Westfield with Father Savio Yerasani officiating. Inurnment will be in Westfield South Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to thank Nan and the staff at Harris Villa for the love and care given not only to our mom but to us, it meant the world to us. Special thanks to her special aid, Hanna for all the manicures and love you gave her.
