Eldred H. “Al” Grant, age 79, Oxford, WI. Born to Eternal Life on October 3, 2010 at his home. Born to Life on May 9, 1931 in Chicago, IL. Loving husband of 14 years to Kathy (nee Wichern). Father of Lynn (Steve Zelten) Braunschweig, Susan (Kevin) Ashenfelter, Karen (Jerry) Schroeckenthaler, Marybeth (David) Grambo, Ken (Denise) Grant and Melissa Grant. Grandfather of Al, Sara, Nicole, Leah, Katy, Gregory and Madeline. Brother of Richard, Lois and Cary, special cousin to Janet, Lolita, Bob other relatives and dear friends. Al was preceded in death in 1992 by his wife of 36 years Norma Jean (nee Lepley), daughter JoAnn, parents and his brother John. Al was a resident of Pewaukee, WI until his retirement in 1997. He graduated from Pewaukee High School in 1950 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Korean Conflict. A lifelong outdoorsman he loved fishing, hunting and camping. A participating member of the American Legion and 40/8, he marched in parades in their color guards. He also was active with the Boy Scouts of America, Potawatomi Area Council, Troops 87 and 13, receiving the honor of the Silver Beaver in 1986 for his distinguished service. He had three church homes, Galilee Lutheran Church, Pewaukee, St. John’s Lutheran, Harrisville and St. John’s Lutheran, Portage.
A memorial service for Al will be held on Friday, October 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 850 Armstrong St., Portage with Rev. Alan Boeck and Rev. Dan Kelm officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date in Pewaukee, WI. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
