Edwin Hell, age 76 of Township of Newton, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at his home. He was born on December 20, 1932, Township of Newton, son of the late Otto and Ella (Muehrer) Hell. Edwin married Delores Frank on May 4, 1957 in Harrisville. He spent all of his life on the family farm except the two years he served in the United States Army in Hawaii. Edwin was a member and past President of the Farm Bureau and FS Co-op. He was a charter and current member of the Township of Newton Volunteer Fire Department. Edwin was also an active member and secretary of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newton. He served on the Westfield School Board of Education and enjoyed woodworking and listening to polka music.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Delores; three children, Richard (Mary) Hell, Westfield, Paula (Brian) Smith, Endeavor and Michael (Dianne) Hell, Westfield; six grandchildren, Thomas (fiancée, Michelle Goodhue) Hell, Kenneth (Elizabeth) Hell, Jessica Hell, Bradley (Chelsea) Smith, Preston Smith and James Hell; two sisters, LaVern (Arden) Pomplun, Wautoma and Elaine (Harry) Gramse, Westfield; three sister in laws, Carol (Orval) Vogel, Westfield, Nancy (Bill) Brakebush, Oxford and Mary (Lavern) Pomplun, Berlin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Edwin will be held on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newton with Rev. Dale Boening officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, Westfield and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church.
