Edward E. Mittelstedt, age 82 of Harrisville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at HospiceCare Inc., Fitchburg on Saturday, August 7, 2010. He was born on March 18, 1928, Township of Newton, son of the late Emil and Augusta (Rux) Mittelstedt. Ed married Bernice Borzick on October 17, 1953 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Princeton. He proudly served his country for two years with the United States Army. Ed held several jobs throughout his life, working for farmers, Standard Oil Company, Westfield, Peterhand Brewery of Chicago as poultry manager and Fieldman for Central Wisconsin Dairy, Westfield. He was an active member of the Harrisville Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, American Legion Post # 244, Westfield and Harrisville Sportsmen Club. Ed helped organize the Marquette County Group the Marchord Barber Shoppers from 1950-1960 and he also sang with a quartet known as The Heck-of-a-Notes. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family as well as bowling and playing baseball. Ed was a loving husband, dad and grandpa.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Bernice; four children, Daniel (Susan), Beaver Dam, Michael, Harrisville, Julie (Dave) Benson, Harrisville and Thomas (Linda), Harrisville; six grandchildren, Ryan and Erika Mittelstedt, Kari Tomlin, Nicholas, Atalie and Brett Mittelstedt; sister in law, Laural Mittelstedt, Amherst; other relatives and many friends. Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Ervin and step dad, Ed Thalacker.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Westfield with Rev. Michael Richel officiating. Inurnment will be in Harrisville Cemetery with full military honors. A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
