Donald A. Wandrey, age 84, of Coloma, was called to his heavenly home with his loving family by his side on Thursday August 10, 2006 at Wild Rose Manor, Wild Rose. He was born on October 24, 1921 in the Township of Springfield, Marquette County, son of the late Arthur M. and Emelia (Janke) Wandrey. Donald married Mae Stumpner on November 23, 1946 in Poy Sippi, WI.
Donald is a United States Navy veteran serving for 4 years during WW II. He was employed with the United States Postal Service in Coloma for almost 40 years. Donald was a very active member in his community serving as Coloma Village President, Coloma Lions Club, Coloma Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion Post 343 Coloma-Hancock and was also involved with many of the Coloma youth programs. He was also a member of National Rural letter Carriers Association. Donald enjoyed outdoor activities, hunting, gardening and sports.
He is survived by his wife, Mae; one son, Jim Wandrey, Coloma, one grandson Evin Wandrey, Coloma; two step grandchildren, Justin (Rie) Obgartel and their children, Sara (Porter) Janovsky; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Abraham J. Wandrey; two sisters, Laura Ploetz and Evelyn Graichen and two brothers, John and August Wandrey.
A visitation for Donald will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2006 from 4 to 8 PM at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, Westfield and on Monday, August 14, 2006 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Westfield. His funeral service will be held on Monday at the church at 11:00 AM with Vicar Ron Riemer officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Coloma where American Legion Post #343 of Coloma-Hancock will perform military honors. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Donald's name.
