Donald P. Kenney Jr., 76, of Oxford, WI, passed away after a long illness on August 4, 2008. Donald was born on September 5, 1931, in Chicago, IL. Donald was married to his life long friend and love, Jean (Gerke), for 48 years. Donald is survived by his loving wife, Jean, two sisters, Gayle (Richard) Dompke of Lake Forest, IL, Shirley (Donald) Long of Uniontown, OH, nieces, nephews, many friends and relatives. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Lorraine (Kirscht) Kenny, Sr.
Donald served in the United States Navy and retired from the Chicago Police Department, after 32 years of dedicated service. Donald was an avid golfer and snowmobiler. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going on fishing trips to Canada, “snowbirding” in Arizona with their friends, Cliff and Dorothy Drews, and also spending time in St. Germain with their friends, Kathy and Jerry Benthusen. Donald and Jean moved to the “Northwoods”, where they resided for five years. In 1996, they moved to their home in Oxford, WI. Donald and Jean enjoy bird watching, feeding the fish and spending time in their beautiful yard, and especially working on his computer.
Donald was a member of the Apple Dumpling Gang, in St. Germain, WI, former member of the St. Germain Lions Club, Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club, Northwoods Wildlife Club and the Hill Lake Estates Property Owners Association, Inc.
The visitation will be held at 1 pm, on Friday, August 8, at the Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, 519 S. Charles Street, Westfield, WI, until the time of the service, which will be held at 3 pm. Interment will be in Oxford Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials to be made to Hospice Touch of Tomah, 321 Butts Avenue, Tomah, WI 54660. Donald will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
