Derk Rodger

Derk LeRoy Rodger, age 57 of Westfield, passed away unexpectedly surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at UW Hospital in Madison.  He was born on May 27, 1963 in Portage to Ronald and Melba (Nelson) Rodger.

Derk was retired from FCI Oxford where he served for 25 years finishing his career as a Safety Manager. He was a giving man, and would give his shirt off of his back for anyone. This mindset drove him to volunteer as an EMT and fire fighter for many years, and helped to save many lives. Even though he is no longer in those roles, he is still helping others by being a tissue donor.

He also helped local organizations by doing pig and chicken cooks for fundraiser events. He also created and lit many 4th of July firework shows for Oxford and Harrisville, he was so proud of this as he is a strong patriot who loved his community and country.

Derk had many hobbies, including horses, hunting, farming, and motorcycles. Although he had many hobbies his true passion was his family. He loved them with all of his being.

Derk is now singing a beautiful duet and dancing a polka across the Heavens with his Mother.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy; four daughters, Sarah (Paul) Parker, Chelsey (Cory) Boeker, Trisha Rodger and Briana Long; mother of his children, Melody Rodger; four grandchildren, Blake and Vince Parker and Flynn and Eva Boeker; many other relatives and friends.  Derk was preceded in death by his parents; uncle, Donald Rodger and his dog, Charlie.

A visitation for Derk will be held on Monday, June 22, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home in Westfield and on Tuesday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

A graveside service for Derk will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at Oxford Village Cemetery with Jim Johnson officiating.  A lunch will follow the graveside service at the Oxford Pub & Grub Pavilion.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Derk’s name.
