David Sprain

David F. Sprain, age 72 of Westfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, August 14, 2020 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage.  He was born on March 20, 1948 in Portage to Donald and Frances (Russell) Sprain.

Dave grew up on the family farm, Russell Flats, in Westfield and graduated from Westfield High School in 1966.  He married Penny (Kitchen) Pine in 1967; and they had one daughter Michelle “Micki” (Sprain) Podoll in 1968.  He attended Aircraft Engineering School and worked as an airline mechanic at TWA, O’Hare-Midway Field, Chicago, IL.  After divorce, Dave married Chris (Urbas) Sprain in 1975, whom had five previous children that Dave loved as his very own.  They lived in Crystal Lake, IL for a couple years then relocated to Westfield in 1978 to farm with his father.  Dave was President of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau and an active member of the Wisconsin Pork Producers Association.  In his most recent years, he worked as a welder at High Tech, Westfield, and retired from Poynette Iron Works, Poynette.  He was very innovative and mechanically inclined; truly enjoyed hosting pig roasts (with his homemade roaster).  He believed in life and liberty and held very strong to these convictions.  He also loved fishing, gardening, bowling, camping and simply spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Chris;  five children, Michelle “Micki” (Glen) Podoll, Coloma, Mike (Susan) Behrendt, AL, Toni (Mark Harrold) Jones, NC, Kelly (Bill) McCune, IL and Kimberly (Mark) Tucker, IL; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one sister, Mary (John) Fullmer, Westfield; two brothers, Dan (Connie) Sprain, Lodi and Steve Sprain, Mineral Point; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Dave was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Terri Goodman.

A memorial gathering for Dave will be held on Friday, August 28, 2020 from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home in Westfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Russell Flats 4-H Club, C/O UW Extension, P.O. Box 338, Montello, WI 53949.
