Barbara Lechnir

Barbara A. Lechnir, age 88 of Mosinee, passed into eternal life peacefully on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.  She was born on June 30, 1929 in Westfield to Harold “Bill” and Margaret (Slowey) Hammond.

Barbara’s greatest passion was helping others. She would do anything for anyone.  Her generosity overwhelmed us all and her desire to put others first came deep from within her Catholic faith which guided every step she took.  She loved the Lord and her ability to give to others allowed her to serve him with grace and dignity.  Barb had a profound love for her family. Her high expectations drove everyone to work harder, love deeper and give more of themselves to others. She demanded kindness and empathy and without a doubt you were required to support all others at all times and lift them up to greatness.  Barb’s true joy came from polishing the talent deep within each one of us and standing back while we shined. She was our number one fan and her voice on the sidelines guided us each day and allowed us all to be winners.

Survivors include her five children, Mark, Chris (Kelli), Tom (Tina), Mary (Mike) Swita and Ann (Kirby) Schultz; 13 grandchildren, Kristina (Chad) Mauk, Melissa Lechnir, Lucas (Courtney) Lechnir, Austin (Tori) Lechnir, Jade Wagner, Olivia Lechnir, Zach and  Drew Lechnir, Will Swita, Ryan (Nikki), Tatum, Paige and Bailey Schultz; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Michalek and Peggy Fullmer; one brother, Joe Hammond; many other relatives and friends.  Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jodi Lechnir; two sisters, Teresa Carstensen and Kay Christensen; one brother, Bruce Hammond.

A memorial visitation for Barbara will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, Westfield.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Westfield with Father Paulraj Sellam officiating.  Inurnment will be in Westfield East Cemetery.
